On January 7, Audi Japan announced the launch of new models in the A4 and A4 Avant mid-size sedan/wagon lineup, featuring their first clean diesel TDI engines. Sales began the same day.

The A4 series equipped with the new clean diesel TDI engine is available in two grades, Advance and S line, each with different specifications and powered by two versions of a 2-liter direct-injection turbo diesel engine. The Advance model comes standard with LED headlights, LED rear lights, dynamic turn indicators, and side skirts, offering a sportier profile than previous S line models. The new S line incorporates design elements from the powerful RS models, such as bonnet slits, dedicated bumpers, and a titanium black honeycomb mesh Singleframe grille. Inside, the standard black glass-look console panel enhances the premium feel.

The 35 TDI is a front-wheel-drive model. Its engine features an aluminum crankcase and forged pistons, achieving a weight reduction of over 20kg. It produces a maximum output of 163ps and a peak torque of 380Nm, paired with a more efficient 7-speed S tronic transmission. Equipped with a 12V MHEV (mild hybrid) system, including a belt-driven alternator starter (BAS) and a lithium-ion battery, it enhances energy regeneration. Functions like engine shutdown during coasting contribute to an excellent fuel economy of 17.1 km/ℓ (WLTC mode).

The 40 TDI utilizes a quattro all-wheel-drive system with a mechanical center differential. The engine, delivering 190ps and 400Nm of torque, is coupled with a 7-speed S tronic transmission. The sedan version achieves 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 241 km/h (European specification, measured values).

Prices range from 5.38 million yen to 6.12 million yen for the A4 sedan, and from 5.67 million yen to 6.41 million yen for the Avant.
