Land Rover World Premieres the New Range Rover Sport
Land Rover has unveiled the new Range Rover Sport, a luxury performance SUV, with a world-first challenge of ascending a spillway at a flooded dam in Iceland.
PHEV and MHEV Lineup, BEV to Arrive in 2024
The Range Rover Sport has a history of achieving remarkable feats, including setting a new SUV record at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, being the first to cross the Arabian Desert's "Empty Quarter," and in 2018, conquering the 999 steps leading to "Heaven's Gate" in China's Hunan Province. This unprecedented challenge of ascending a turbulent dam spillway showcases the new Range Rover Sport's grip, traction, performance, and stability to the world.
The new Range Rover Sport measures 4,946mm in length, 2,209mm in width (including door mirrors), and 1,820mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,997mm. It utilizes Land Rover's advanced MLA-Flex (flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture) platform, which accommodates all powertrains and is also featured in the new Range Rover launched in October 2021.
The PHEV model, combining a 3.0-liter inline-six gasoline engine with an electric motor, delivers a maximum output of 510ps. It offers an electric-only range of 113km (70 miles) and a total range of 740km, while keeping CO2 emissions down to 18g/km.
The new 4.4-liter V8 twin-scroll twin-turbocharged gasoline engine model (530ps) achieves a sports car-like 0-100km/h acceleration in 4.5 seconds (0-60mph: 4.3 seconds) with Dynamic Launch engaged. It also incorporates mild-hybrid technology (MHEV).
A 3.0-liter inline-six Ingenium diesel engine and gasoline engine are also available, with a fully electric vehicle (BEV) planned to join the lineup in 2024.
The new Range Rover Sport's proportions are described as "emotionally engaging design, with taut surfaces, a dynamic stance, and an unmistakable profile perfectly emphasized by its muscular proportions, conveying a sense of calm readiness to perform."
This design philosophy extends to the refreshed interior. While honoring the tradition of the trademark Command Driving Position (CDP), it offers a new interpretation, combining convenient latest features, driver assistance systems, and the finest materials to deliver a driving experience that is enjoyable with every journey.
Specifically, it features the latest Pivi Pro infotainment system with a newly developed 13.1-inch floating full HD touchscreen with haptic feedback for an intuitive digital experience, a 13.7-inch interactive driver display, and an advanced air purification system Pro that provides an optimal cabin environment for passenger well-being and focus. The third-generation Active Noise Cancellation reduces external noise intrusion, creating an exceptionally refined cabin with the MERIDIAN sound system.
For driving dynamics, the Dynamic Air Suspension with switchable volume air springs, a first for the Range Rover family, and twin-valve active dampers achieve unprecedented levels of agility, control, and stability.
Additionally, an optional Stormer Handling Pack is available, combining All-Wheel Steering (AWS), Dynamic Response Pro, an electronic active differential with torque vectoring by braking, and a configurable program.
Furthermore, the new Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control, a first for the model, supports traversal of challenging and tricky terrain by maintaining stable progress according to road conditions. Drivers can select one of four settings to automatically adjust speed, allowing them to concentrate on steering.
The new Range Rover Sport, like the new Range Rover, is manufactured exclusively at the company's historic Solihull manufacturing facility in the UK. Pricing starts at ¥10,680,000 for the base grade, with the First Edition priced from ¥16,040,000.
