Sporty R-Line Added to Golf Variant

Volkswagen Group Japan announced on the 2nd that it has added the "Golf Variant R-Line," featuring sporty exterior and equipment, to its station wagon "Golf Variant." Sales have commenced.

First R-Line in the Golf Series Sold in Japan

In 2013, the "Golf 7" became the first imported car to win the Japan Car of the Year. While the Golf series sold in Japan includes the flagship model "Golf R" which combines a high output of 280ps with a 4WD system, the "R-Line," adopting the same design cues as the "R," has now made its debut in Japan. The first model to be introduced is the wagon model "Golf Variant" which was introduced at the end of last year.The previous Geneva Motor Showwas also exhibited as a concept car atconcept car, representing a new line for the Golf.

The R-Line is based on the "TSI Highline," the upper grade of the Golf Variant, and features exclusive interior and exterior parts developed by Volkswagen R, a tuning manufacturer active in racing scenes such as WRC. The powertrain remains the same as the TSI Highline: a 1.4-liter single-turbo engine combined with a 7-speed DSG transmission, delivering a maximum output of 103 kW (140 ps) and a peak torque of 250 Nm (25.5 kgm).

The exterior features exclusive R-Line bumpers on the front and rear. The side profile is enhanced with side skirts and specially designed 5-double-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels, elevating the sporty aesthetic.

The interior also exudes a sense of luxury and sportiness with exclusive fabric featuring "R" logo embroidery and Alcantara sport seats. Additionally, paddle shifters and a dedicated steering wheel are included. Optional features include the "DOC" suspension system, which continuously adjusts damping force characteristics based on driving conditions.

Six body colors are available. The price is set at 3,599,000 yen, an increase of 200,000 yen from the TSI Highline.
