Details and a video of theM4 Convertiblewhich was revealed at theM4 ConvertibleNew York Auto Show this April, have now been released.
This marks the fifth generation since the first M3 Convertible. The new M4 Convertible's powertrain, like that of theM3 Sedan and M4 Coupe, features a high-revving 3.0-liter inline-six M TwinPower Turbo engine paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed M DCT (Double Clutch Transmission). It boasts a maximum output of 317 kW (431 hp) and peak torque of 550 Nm, achieving 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds when combined with the M-DCT.
Thanks to a lightweight chassis, aluminum hood and floor side panels, and a carbon fiber driveshaft, fuel economy is slightly lower than the M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe, at 9.1-8.7 L/100km (approximately 11.0-11.5 km/L), with CO2 emissions of 213-203 g/km.
The interior mirrors that of the M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe, featuring M-specific equipment such as an M leather steering wheel with chrome trim and contrast stitching, an M gear lever, M door sills, and an M footrest. Four colors of Fine-grain Merino leather are available, with an additional nine variations offered through the BMW Individual program.
The three-part retractable hardtop can be operated while driving at speeds below 18 km/h, with the opening and closing process taking less than 20 seconds. The interior of the roof is fully lined, reportedly achieving a high level of sound insulation and thermal performance, addressing common concerns with open-top models.
Trunk space is 220 liters with the top down, expanding to 370 liters when closed. A mechanism is also included to lift the roof compartment, allowing easier access to luggage stored beneath the retracted roof.
While the new M4 Convertible, the fifth generation, has been launched in Europe, its introduction to the Japanese market remains undecided.
