Unveiling Imminent
While the Cayenne is set for a minor model change soon, orders for the new model will commence in Japan next week, ahead of its official unveiling.
The Cayenne, which debuted in 2002 as Porsche's first SUV, quickly became a popular model, with production exceeding 270,000 units. The second generation was announced in 2010and in just four years, over 300,000 units have been delivered worldwide. This second-generation Cayenne is now receiving a minor model update.
The lineup for Japan will consist of three models: the Cayenne S, the plug-in hybrid Cayenne S E-Hybrid, and the top-tier Cayenne Turbo.
The Cayenne S will be equipped with a newly developed 3.6-liter twin-turbo engine, replacing the previous V8. While sharing the same displacement as the engine in its smaller sibling, theMacan Turbo, it boasts an increased maximum output of 420 hp (309 kW) and an identical maximum torque of 550 Nm.
Although it's a downsized engine, when paired with the 8-speed Tiptronic S, it achieves 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, a 0.4-second improvement over the current Cayenne S. With the optional Sport Chrono package, this time is further reduced by 0.1 seconds. The top speed has increased by 1 km/h to 259 km/h.

Cayenne's First Plug-in Hybrid Also Arrives
As its name suggests, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid is the Cayenne's first plug-in hybrid model, sharing its designation with thePanamera S E-Hybrid. Compared to the previous non-plug-in hybrid model, theCayenne Hybrid, it represents a significant evolution, featuring an upgraded lithium-ion battery of 10.8 kWh and a motor output increased from 47 hp to 95 hp.
This electric motor is paired with a 3-liter V6 supercharged engine producing a maximum output of 333 hp (245 kW). The combined system delivers a maximum output of 416 hp (306 kW) and a substantial torque of 590 Nm. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 243 km/h.
The enhanced battery significantly extends the pure electric driving range, offering approximately 18-36 km depending on driving conditions. Fuel efficiency has also been improved, with a combined cycle (NEDC) consumption of 3.4 l/100 km (approximately 29.4 km/l) and CO2 emissions as low as 79 g/km. The electric motor alone can propel the vehicle up to 125 km/h. Charging is possible via an external power source, as is typical for plug-in hybrids, or through regenerative braking while driving.
The top-of-the-line Cayenne Turbo is powered by a 4.8-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, delivering a maximum output of 520 hp (382 kW) and 750 Nm of torque. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds (4.4 seconds with the Sport Chrono package). Its top speed is 259 km/h, with fuel consumption rated at 11.2-11.5 l/100 km (8.7-8.9 km/l).
Additionally, the "Cayenne Diesel" and "Cayenne S Diesel" models, equipped with diesel engines, are available in its home market but are not currently planned for introduction in Japan.

Sharp New Design
To improve fuel efficiency, the vehicle incorporates a coasting mode that disengages the engine and clutch when the accelerator is released, allowing for freewheeling. It also features an Auto Start/Stop Plus function for idling and a thermal management system for automatic engine warm-up. For the first time, active air flaps are integrated into the center of the air intake. These flaps automatically adjust to prioritize engine cooling or enhance aerodynamics by opening or closing as needed.
The exterior has been redesigned with a sharper front end, including updated front fenders and hood. New air blades have also been adopted. LED headlights with the distinctive Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) are standard on the Cayenne Turbo.
The rear design emphasizes a more three-dimensional appearance, with the exhaust pipes now integrated into the lower bumper section.
Orders for the new Cayenne will open on July 29th. The Japanese specification will exclusively feature the 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission for all models. Both left-hand and right-hand drive options will be available. Pricing is set at 11.28 million yen for the Cayenne S, 11.55 million yen for the Cayenne S E-Hybrid, and 17.20 million yen for the Cayenne Turbo.
