Multi-Beam LED Optional for First Time on Mercedes

The four-door coupe "CLS" and the "CLS Shooting Brake," which adapts its flowing styling to a wagon body, have been updated to the 2014 model year in Germany, approximately a year and a half after the E-Class, their base model. The most significant change is the adoption of the latest Mercedes face. The diamond radiator grille, larger air intakes, and LED headlights are complemented by tube-shaped turn signal lenses at the top.

In the new CLS,E-Classall models come standard with LED headlights, similar to the E-Class. Furthermore, an optional "Multi-Beam LED Headlight" system is available for the first time on a Mercedes-Benz. This system uses a camera mounted on the windshield to analyze the surroundings and individually control 24 LEDs to ensure optimal visibility at all times. Calculations are performed 100 times per second, and if oncoming traffic is detected, only the portion of the beam illuminating that area is masked to avoid dazzling other drivers.

Additionally, selecting the Multi-Beam LED system enables a new welcome light feature: the turn signals illuminate in blue when the key is unlocked.

The standard CLS Class offers three diesel and two gasoline engines. Among these, the "CLS 400" is introduced, replacing the naturally aspirated V6 previously designated as the CLS 350. It is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 turbo engine. Compared to the CLS 350, its maximum output increases by 20 kW to 245 kW (333 ps), and its maximum torque improves by 110 Nm to 480 Nm, available across a wide range from 1,200 to 4,000 rpm.

These engines are paired with the "9G-Tronic" automatic transmission, featuring nine gears instead of the previous seven. This increased number of gears allows for finer gear control to achieve optimal efficiency at all times, contributing to improved fuel economy. The adoption of the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system has also been expanded, now being available for the CLS 400.

The top-tier "CLS 63 AMG" model is equipped with a 5.5-liter twin-turbo engine engineered by Mercedes-AMG, delivering a maximum output of 410 kW (557 ps) and a peak torque of 720 Nm. The even more powerful "CLS 63 AMG S" boasts a maximum output of 430 kW (585 ps) and a torque of 800 Nm.

As a latest Mercedes-Benz model, it offers advanced safety devices utilizing radar and cameras, as well as a comprehensive infotainment system with smartphone integration.
