Audi will unveil the Audi “A3 Sedan” at the Wörthersee Meeting in Carinthia, Germany, from May 28. The model features an ultra-high-performance version concept, the Audi “A3 Clubsport quattro concept,” powered by a highly tuned 2.5 TFSI engine producing 386 kW (525 hp), along with numerous sporty features such as blister fenders and a dedicated front spoiler.

The A3 Sedan, taken to the extreme
The base model is the C-segment sporty model, the Audi “S3 Sedan” As you know, the Audi S3 is already a high-performance machine, equipped with a 2-liter inline 4-cylinder DOHC intercooled turbo engine that produces 206 kW (280 hp) and 380 Nm (38.8 kgm) of torque. However, the ultra-high-performance study model to be unveiled at the Wörthersee Meeting, the Audi “A3 Clubsport quattro concept,” makes even those specifications seem insignificant.
The sedan body has been lightened to just 1,527 kg through the use of a carbon engine hood, carbon side sills, and aero extensions. It is armed with blister fenders that immediately signal its extraordinary nature and an aggressive front face with large air dams.
The overall length is 4,490 mm, and the width has been increased to 1,856 mm due to the blister fenders. The height is 1,382 mm, just 10 mm lower than the Audi “S3 Sedan,” but it conveys a greater sense of presence and racing atmosphere. The large Singleframe grille proudly displays the “quattro” badge. The elegantly designed headlights, of course, utilize LED technology.
The wheels are 9.5J x 21 inches, fitted with 275/25R21 tires, fitting snugly within the blister fenders. In other words, the blister fenders were created to accommodate these unusually wide tires for this body size. This is not merely a cosmetic modification for looks.
The front brakes are 370 mm discs, all made of carbon-ceramic, providing immense stopping power. Furthermore, an air brake system is also equipped to maintain a stable posture during high-speed braking and shorten the stopping distance. This system utilizes the rear spoiler, which moves from its normal position to vertical during braking, increasing air resistance and generating downforce. It is said to reduce the braking distance by approximately 12 meters from 250 km/h.

Performance on par with dedicated sports cars
However, the highlight of the Audi A3 Clubsport quattro concept lies ahead. The power unit housed under the front bonnet is based on the 5-cylinder, 2.5-liter TFSI engine found in the Audi “RS Q3” which produces 228 kW (310 hp) and 420 Nm (42.8 kgm) of torque. This has been boosted to an astonishing 386 kW (525 hp) and 600 Nm (61.1 kgm) of torque.
The power-to-weight ratio is a supercar-level 2.9 kg/ps. When you consider that the power-to-weight ratio of the Porsche “911 Turbo S” is 2.86 kg/ps, you can understand just how remarkable the figures for the Audi A3 Clubsport quattro concept are. Remember, this is from a mere 2.5-liter, 5-cylinder engine. The output per liter is 155.6 kW (211.7 ps), with 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 310 km/h. These are not the figures of a C-segment sedan.
Supporting this 386 kW (525 hp) output is the familiar quattro system. The hydraulic multi-plate clutch that transmits power to the rear wheels has been specially designed to handle the increased torque. The transmission is a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch system. Of course, rapid gear changes are possible not only with the floor shifter but also with the paddle shifters located beside the steering wheel.
The suspension, while using the same McPherson strut front and four-link rear configurations as the base model, is fitted with dedicated springs and dampers. The firmer settings are designed to deliver optimal performance on both public roads and circuits. To ensure stability during cornering, the ESC (Electronic Stabilization Control) and a torque-vectoring system, which brakes the inner wheel to prevent understeer and oversteer, are standard equipment.
The interior is also sportily appointed, featuring carbon-shell front seats, a flat-bottomed D-shaped steering wheel with a starter button, and stainless steel accents on the pedals, footrest, and door openers. Special touches include piping on the seats, brushed aluminum accent panels, and carbon badges with the “Clubsport” logo. Despite these enhancements, the cabin space, comfortably seating four adults, remains as practical as the base car.
While production is undecided, as a concept model that showcases the potential and capabilities of the 2.5-liter 5-cylinder TFSI engine, it is also poised to attract significant global attention as a rival to theAMG 45 seriesmodels.
