A Car Embodying BMW's Sports DNA

BMW has announced its new sports car, the "Vision Gran Turismo." Engineered by BMW M, its 3-liter inline-six twin-power turbo engine delivers a maximum output of 404kW (549ps) at 6,200-7,300rpm and a peak torque of 680Nm at 1,900rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a sequential six-speed transmission operated by paddle shifters.

This, however, is all within the realm of Sony's PlayStation game, "Gran Turismo 6." Nevertheless, as mentioned, the car realistically incorporates the elements BMW seeks in its sports models: an inline-six engine tuned by BMW M, an FR layout, a 50:50 front-rear weight distribution, and a mere 1,180kg curb weight.

The exterior design is also unmistakably BMW at first glance. Details found in the latest BMW sports models, such as the kidney grille, the round, four-light-esque headlights that appear to be LEDs, and the prominently flared rear fenders, are scattered throughout.i8andM4 CoupeThe body utilizes extensive carbon fiber, contributing to the reduction in vehicle weight. The BMW M-colored lines adorning the surface reportedly visualize the airflow over the body.

This project stems from "Vision Gran Turismo," announced last year to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Gran Turismo series, inviting participation from various automotive brands.Los Angeles Auto Showwas the venue where Mercedes-Benz unveiled theAMG Vision Gran Turismo, one such vehicle.

And now, BMW has introduced a sports car that condenses BMW's DNA, both inside and out, into the world of Gran Turismo 6.
