Audi's First RS SUV, the RS Q3, Launched in Japan


Audi Japan has introduced the "RS Q3," the first model in its SUV lineup to bear the RS designation. Sales commenced on March 18th.

"RS" is a designation reserved for special models engineered by quattro GmbH, Audi's subsidiary responsible for its motorsport endeavors, including the Le Mans 24 Hours race. First appearing as a concept at the 2012Beijing Motor Show, the RS Q3, the first RS model in an SUV body style, went on sale in Europe in February of the following year, 2013.the RS Q3has finally been launched in Japan as well.


The engine powering this model is a 2.5-liter inline 5-cylinder TFSI. This is a tuned version of the engine found in the current second-generation Audi TT RS sold in Japan. It delivers a maximum output of 310ps and peak torque of 420Nm. Paired with a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and, of course, quattro all-wheel drive, it achieves 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds while boasting a fuel economy of 11.5 km/ℓ under the JC08 test cycle.






The front fascia features a singleframe grille with matte aluminum and honeycomb mesh, along with large air intakes. At the rear, a dedicated spoiler, bumper, and diffuser, complemented by large-diameter sports exhaust pipes, emphasize its status as a special sporty model. The wheels are 20-inch, 5-twin-spoke units fitted with 255/35R20 tires. Matte black wheels are also available as an option.


The interior also boasts sporty elements, including RS logo-embossed sports seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and specially designed instrument panels. The latest infotainment system MMI 3G+ with connectivity functions and a BOSE surround sound system are also standard.


Furthermore, coinciding with the introduction of the RS Q3, an assistance package has been made available as an option for all Q3 models, including the RS Q3. This package includes cruise control, Audi side assist, and active lane assist.


The domestic retail price for the RS Q3 is 6.98 million yen, including 5% consumption tax.
