Audi's Flagship Saloon, New A8 and S8 Announced in Japan
AudiOn March 13, the company unveiled the latest three models of its flagship saloon, the "A8," along with its family members, the "A8 L" and "S8," in Japan.

Adopts World's First Matrix LED Headlights
The "A8," which debuted in 2010 as Audi's top-tier sedan, has undergone a minor change after three years.
The "The Art of Progress" concept of the A8 is carried over to the new model. The Singleframe grille features a more sculpted design, and the bonnet design has also been altered. With lines drawn on each side, it achieves a simple yet powerful body line.
The new model's body dimensions are identical to the previous generation: 5,140mm in length, 1,950mm in width, and 1,460mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,990mm. A long-wheelbase model, the "A8 L," which is 130mm longer, is also available. The chassis continues to utilize Audi's aluminum Space Frame (ASF) structure, with the frame alone weighing a mere 231kg.
The highlight of the new A8 is undoubtedly the world's first glare-free high beam. The lighting system, named "Matrix LED," consists of LEDs for the low beam and a high beam unit composed of 25 small LEDs. During high beam operation, it senses oncoming and preceding vehicles using a camera and selectively illuminates or extinguishes individual LEDs to accurately illuminate the road without dazzling other drivers. Another notable change is the replacement of the traditional flashing turn signals with a sequential, flowing animation.

Cylinder Deactivation Technology Adopted for V8 and W12 Engines
The powertrain lineup includes a 3.0-liter V6 supercharged engine, a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo, a naturally aspirated 6.3-liter W12, and a hybrid combining a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo with an electric motor. In addition to the V8, the W12 also features the Cylinder On Demand system (cylinder deactivation system).
This is combined with an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission andAudiAudi's proprietary "quattro" all-wheel-drive system (excluding the hybrid). Furthermore, standard equipment includes the "adaptive air suspension" for a sportier yet comfortable ride, the Audi parking system with park assist featuring a 360° display for automatic steering during parking, and the "Audi pre sense" safety system.
It also offers high comfort features such as the BOSE surround sound system and active noise cancellation, which reduces noise by emitting anti-phase sound from the speakers.
Prices range from 9.7 million yen for the entry-level "A8 Hybrid," 9.8 million yen for the "A8 3.0 TFSI quattro," 12.4 million yen for the "A8 4.0 TFSI quattro," 13.7 million yen for the "A8 L 4.0 TFSI quattro," 20.85 million yen for the "A8 L W12 quattro," and 16.2 million yen for the "S8."
