MP4-12C,” and “P1,” McLaren, which has dominated the supercar market, will unveil a new model at the Geneva Motor Show again this year. This newcomer, named the “650S,” is said to be a vehicle that brings together the company's 50-year history and achievements in motorsport.

McLaren will announce its new supercar, the “650S,” at the Geneva Motor Show in March. With the world premiere imminent, an overview has been pre-released.

According to McLaren, the 650S will be positioned between the earlier “MP4-12C” and the “P1,” of which only 375 units were produced and have already sold out. The number “650” in its name refers toas previously reportedits maximum output of 650ps, with the “S” standing for Sport. The 650S, based on the MP4-12C, is planned to be a production model rather than a limited edition, joining the lineup. Its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine is an improved version of the M838T model found in the MP4-12C, with an output increase of 25ps compared to the MP4-12C.

Meanwhile, the front face features LEDs, giving it a look reminiscent of the P1. Much of the technology cultivated during the development of the MP4-12C and P1 has been fed back into the aerodynamics, with a front splitter integrated into the bumper to increase downforce. This not only improves cornering performance but also enhances steering feel and driver confidence.

Additionally, the door blades, which have grooves designed to channel air from the front splitter, are fitted along the lines that flow from the rear of the front fenders to the rear of the car. These are said to contribute to improved front-end grip and maintain the car's balance.

The lower rear section features a three-piece diffuser, a feedback from the MP4-12C GT3 race car. Furthermore, like the MP4-12C, McLaren's unique rear air brake has been optimized for the 650S and can now operate automatically when needed, not just manually or during braking.

Regarding the 650S, Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren Automotive, commented, “This new design developed by McLaren, like all our previous models, is a testament to correct engineering.” While the 650S's Cd value (aerodynamic drag) is nearly the same as the 12C's, the downforce at 150 mph (approximately 241.5 km/h) has increased by 24 percent.

The specially designed 5-spoke wheels are fitted with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, and for general road and track use, a dedicated "MC1" tire developed simultaneously with the 650S will also be available. McLaren's unique suspension system, "Proactive Chassis Control," has also been refined, with three modes – "Normal," "Sport," and "Track" – that achieve a balance of race-car-like road holding and grip with the comfort of a luxury saloon. Of course, it can be selected independently of the drivetrain.

The 650S, which embodies McLaren's 50 years of history and achievements in motorsport. Further details will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
