Electric Metal Top with Improved Sound Insulation
"3 Series Cabriolet" successor, the "4 Series Cabriolet". The open-top model, which had its world premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show" and LA Motor Show" last November, has now gone on sale in Japan.
The base model is the "4 Series Coupe", which just launched in Japan last September. The wider and lower stance achieved through the model change, and the lowest center of gravity among current BMW models, have been faithfully carried over to the cabriolet. The car achieves BMW's ideal 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution and boasts a 40 percent increase in body rigidity compared to its predecessor, resulting in agile handling and dynamic performance.
The model released this time is the "435i" equipped with a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder DOHC twin-power turbo engine. It delivers a maximum output of 225 kW (306 ps) at 5,800 rpm and a maximum torque of 400 Nm (40.8 kgm) at 1,200-5,000 rpm.
The transmission is an 8-speed automatic transmission, previously used in the 4 Series. The 0-100 km/h acceleration time in its home market is 5.5 seconds.
As with other BMW models, the 435i is available in two design lines in addition to the standard model: Luxury and M Sport.
The three-part electric metal top features a sound-absorbing roof lining, significantly improving sound insulation. Furthermore, the hardtop can be fully opened or closed in under 20 seconds with a single button press on the center console, provided the vehicle speed is below 18 km/h. Even with the top down, the trunk capacity is 370 liters. When loading or unloading luggage, the opening can be widened by lifting the retracted roof section.
In terms of safety equipment, it features Driving Assistant, which enhances safety using a forward-facing camera. By digitally analyzing the camera's video feed, it provides functions such as lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and collision mitigation braking. Additionally, front seat heaters, electric leather seats, HDD navigation, and adaptive headlights are all standard equipment.
The prices, including 5% consumption tax, are 8.26 million yen for the "Cabriolet," 8.46 million yen for the "Cabriolet Luxury," and 8.64 million yen for the "Cabriolet M Sport."
