Manual Soft-Top Adopts Heritage of British Roadsters
The MINI Roadster will be added as the sixth model to the current lineup. While the exterior adheres to typical MINI design idioms with its rounded proportions, horizontal lines, and oval headlamps, its sportiness is emphasized by a windscreen tilted 13 degrees more than the MINI Convertible and a large hexagonal radiator grille. The noteworthy soft-top employs a classic manual opening and closing mechanism, said to "follow the heritage of British roadsters." When this soft-top is closed, an elegant and flowing three-box silhouette, similar to the MINI Coupe, emerges.
Body colors include two matte finishes and six metallic colors, with the soft-top available only in black. Stripes, selectable from three colors, can be added to the bonnet. The wheels are lightweight alloy designs in 15 to 17-inch sizes, depending on the grade.
Cooper, Cooper S, and JCW Lineup
The lineup consists of three models: Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works, each equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with different specifications. The Cooper features Valvetronic technology used in BMW vehicles, producing a maximum output of 90 kW (122 hp) at 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 160 Nm at 4,250 rpm. It achieves 0-100 km/h acceleration in 9.2 seconds and a top speed of 199 km/h. Environmental performance stands at 5.7 L/100 km fuel consumption and 133 g/km CO2 emissions.
The Cooper S utilizes a twin-scroll turbocharger and gasoline direct injection technology, delivering a maximum output of 135 kW (184 hp) at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 240 Nm between 1,600 and 5,000 rpm, with an overboost function capable of further increasing torque. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h is achieved in 7 seconds, with a top speed of 227 km/h. Despite this performance, fuel consumption is 6.0 L/100 km and CO2 emissions are 139 g/km, which BMW claims are the best environmental performance figures in its class.
The most high-performance John Cooper Works model boasts a maximum output of 155 kW (211 hp) at 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 260 Nm at 1,850 rpm, with an overboost function reaching 280 Nm. It completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.5 seconds and has a top speed of 237 km/h. Fuel consumption is 7.3 L/100 km, with CO2 emissions at 169 g/km.
All grades come standard with brake energy regeneration, engine auto start/stop, and electric power steering. A 6-speed manual transmission is typically provided, but the Cooper and Cooper S models offer an optional 6-speed automatic transmission.
The interior features sports seats available in a lustrous brown color, akin to caramel, or black. The black seats are accented with beige stitching. Six trim patterns are offered, with a "Red Chili" color option available exclusively for the John Cooper Works model. Behind the seats, stainless steel rollover bars provide occupant protection along with a reinforced windscreen frame.
Details regarding sales timing and pricing are eagerly awaited.
