Equipped with the "SKYACTIV-D" Clean Diesel Engine

The theme Mazda is championing at the "42nd Tokyo Motor Show" is: "The joy of driving beyond the environment—Mazda will continue to evolve as long as there are people who love cars." The "TAKERI," making its world premiere at the show, is a concept sedan that embodies this theme, adhering to the "KODO" design idiom used in models like last year's "SHINARI."

It boasts a dynamic styling that aims for power and allure, and is powered by a new-generation 2.2-liter clean diesel engine, the "SKYACTIV-D," which produces a maximum output of 129kW (175ps) and a maximum torque of 420Nm. While achieving both powerful driving and comfort, it also incorporates the idling stop mechanism "i-stop" and Mazda's first "regenerative braking system," which, combined with SKYACTIV, further enhances fuel efficiency.

The energy released by this regenerative braking system is stored in a capacitor and used as electrical power for the vehicle's systems. This technology is part of the "building block" strategy, which involves improving existing platforms and gradually introducing electrical devices: Step 1 is i-stop, Step 2 is the regenerative braking system, and Step 3 is motor drive technology (such as in hybrid vehicles).

Furthermore, the "TAKERI" is expected to be launched in the spring of 2013 as the next-generation model of the Mazda 6 (Atenza in Japan).

Additionally, at this Tokyo Motor Show, Mazda will also exhibit the domestic specification model of theSUV equipped with SKYACTIV, the "CX-5",as well as production vehicles such as the"SHINARI",and the new"DEMIO"and"AXELA"which adopt SKYACTIV technology.
