The long-awaited NISSAN GT-R Spec V finally makes its debut.

The Long-Awaited NISSAN GT-R Spec V Finally Debuts

On January 8th, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced the Spec V, a high-performance version of the GT-R.

Carbon-Ceramic Brakes Derived from Racing Cars

The NISSAN GT-R made its global debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2007 as a multi-performance supercar, designed so that "anyone, anywhere, at any time can enjoy the ultimate supercar lifestyle." The high-performance version, "Spec V," which had been the subject of much anticipation, was finally announced on January 8th.

While the Spec V is based on the standard GT-R, it has been developed with a focus on drivers who purely consider driving as "sport," those who enjoy sporty driving on circuits, and those who seek a racing-like driving experience where they feel completely one with the car. In essence, it is a special specification that has shed some of its "multi-performance" aspects to specialize further in "sport."

Symbolizing this concept are the carbon-ceramic brakes. Developed over the past four years in parallel with the GT-R's development, they aim for world-leading performance, balancing racing-derived brakes with usability for everyday driving. Tested at the Nürburgring, they achieved a powerful braking force with a maximum G-force of 2.05 and a weight reduction of 5kg per wheel compared to steel brakes.

Incidentally, the vehicle weight has been reduced by 60kg from the standard GT-R, bringing it to 1680kg.

High-Gear Boost Temporarily Increases Turbocharger Boost Pressure

The suspension has been specially tuned to further suppress roll and minimize load transfer across all four wheels during sporty driving, such as on circuits. Specifically, by increasing the spring rate, the load balance across all four wheels is equalized, while the dampers' damping force characteristics are tightened to match the springs. The dampers are, like those on the normal model, made by Bilstein. However, they do not feature the setup switch for three-stage damping force adjustment and employ conventional monotube dampers without electronic variable control. Furthermore, comprehensive tuning specific to the Spec V has been applied to the alignment, stabilizers, and even the engine mounts. The tires are "POTENZA RE070R Run Flat Tires," co-developed with Bridgestone specifically for the Spec V.

The engine's fundamental performance is the same as the standard model, but it is equipped with "High-Gear Boost," which temporarily increases the turbocharger's boost pressure when needed. By pressing a switch located on the steering wheel, this system generates greater torque in the 3500-5000rpm range, providing powerful acceleration up to around 6500rpm. The maximum torque increases from 588 Nm (60 kgm) to 608 Nm (62.0 kgm) when the switch is activated. Incidentally, "High-Gear Boost" is designed for momentary acceleration and automatically disengages after approximately 80 seconds of operation.

The exterior features a carbon rear spoiler, carbon front grille, and carbon brake ducts. The wheels are lighter RAYS forged aluminum wheels. At the rear, the titanium exhaust pipes with a design exclusive to the Spec V are eye-catching. The body color shown in the photo is a special Spec V color called Ultimate Opal Black, designed to express the infinite depth and multifaceted colors of a jewel on the car's body, creating a deep hue that changes its appearance depending on the angle of light.

Inside, RECARO carbon bucket seats are adopted for the front. The rear seats have been removed to save weight. The use of carbon on the rear center box and instrument panel further enhances the sporty impression.

Due to the specialized mechanical knowledge required for circuit driving, the Spec V will only be handled by seven dealerships nationwide. The price is 15.75 million yen, which is 7.14 million yen higher than the standard grade of the normal model.
