Body 70mm Shorter, 33mm Wider

The most significant exterior feature of the new Fairlady Z (FAIRLADY Z) is likely its body size. The published figures are 4244mm in length, 1849mm in width, and 1322mm in height. Compared to the current model, the length is 70mm shorter and the width is 33mm wider. The height is nearly unchanged, but the wheelbase has been shortened by 100mm to 2549mm, and the rear tread has been widened by 56mm.

With the front and rear overhangs also trimmed, it's certain that not only the visual impact but also the driving performance has been significantly enhanced.

This new model also achieves significant weight reduction, employing aluminum for the door panels and rear hatch. Furthermore, the bonnet hood, which was made of aluminum and metal in the current model, has been changed to full aluminum. These modifications bring the vehicle's weight down by 40kg from the current model to 1466kg.

Power-to-Weight Ratio is 4.4kg/ps

The engine is a 3.7-liter V6, shared with the "Skyline Coupe," but through dedicated tuning, it produces a maximum output of 332ps at 7000rpm and a maximum torque of 37.3kgm at 5200rpm. The power-to-weight ratio is 4.4kg/ps.

The transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The 6-speed manual features the world's first "Synchro Rev Match System." This is available with the optional "Sports Package," and when the rev match mode is selected via a switch, it synchronizes the engine speed with the clutch operation during shifts. It's easy to understand if you think of it as the car performing heel-and-toe downshifts for you.

Regarding pricing, North American Nissan announced a starting price of "$29,930 (approximately 2.9 million yen)." Sales in North America will begin in January 2009, while the Japanese debut is set for December 2008. A "Roadster" model is also expected to join the lineup in late 2009.

The new Z, with its compact body, weight reduction, and upgraded engine, is a highly anticipated arrival.
