Joining the Ranks of Great Contemporary Art
"Art Basel" is the world's largest contemporary art fair, held annually in June in Basel, a city in northwestern Switzerland. It now also takes place in Hong Kong in May and Miami Beach (USA) in December, growing into a global art fair spanning Europe, Asia, and America. At this year's "Art Basel Miami," Ferrari sponsored the exhibition titled "Piston Head: Artists Engage the Automobile."
The top floor of the studio of Herzog & de Meuron, the world-renowned architects known for designing the Beijing Olympic main stadium and the Prada Aoyama store, was transformed into an open parking lot as one of the venues. Here, artworks with the theme of "cars" created by leading modern and contemporary artists such as Damien Hirst, Keith Haring, César, and Kenny Scharf were exhibited.
At the venue where such distinguished artists' works were displayed, Ferrari exhibited the "LaFerrari," which had only recently begun delivery to its owners, as a work of art. This is the first special production model in 11 years since the "Enzo Ferrari." With a system maximum output of 963 hp, combining a 6.3-liter V12 engine with Ferrari's first hybrid system, and utilizing carbon fiber for the monocoque, the LaFerrari, now joining the ranks of great contemporary art, became the focus of attention for art and car enthusiasts alike.
