Audi is reportedly looking to expand its SUV sales ratio alongside an increase in model variations within the brand. In fact, the Q series accounted for 28 percent of Audi's new car sales in 2013. Audi's intention is to strengthen this further and increase it to 35 percent by 2020. The overall model variations will also increase, aiming for production of 60 models from the current 49, and 2 million units annually.
One of the models to be introduced as part of this initiative is the new "Q1," aimed at an even smaller segment than the current compact SUV "Q3." Currently, the "A3",A3 Sportback," and A4",A5" are scheduled to begin manufacturing in 2016 at the Ingolstadt plant in Germany, which produces Audi's A and B segment vehicles.
