The prototype vehicle for the next-generation NSX, under development by Honda, has finally been revealed. Clad in a blue body color and presented under Honda's luxury brand Acura, its appearance closely resembles the concept car unveiled in Geneva this past March. A demonstration run, marking its world premiere, is scheduled for August 4th at the 14th round of the IndyCar Series held in Ohio, USA, promising to draw significant attention.
As previously announced, the powertrain will feature a next-generation direct-injection VTEC V6 engine mounted in a mid-ship layout. It will be equipped with the "SPORT HYBRID SH-AWD (Super Handling - All Wheel Drive)" high-efficiency, high-output hybrid system, balancing driving performance with fuel economy.
The planned hybrid system will combine an engine with a dual-clutch transmission housing high-efficiency motors, along with an electric all-wheel-drive system that independently drives the left and right front wheels via two separate motors.
Furthermore, in preparation for the production of the next-generation NSX, Honda is investing approximately US$70 million (about 6.65 billion yen) to establish a "Performance Manufacturing Center" adjacent to the Honda R&D Americas, Ohio Center. Preparations are underway for mass production to commence in 2015.
With the supply of F1 engines to McLaren and the upcoming debut of the next-generation NSX, 2015 is undoubtedly set to be a pivotal year for Honda, marking a transition into a new era.
