£800 Million Investment

Bentley has decided to introduce an SUV to the market as its fourth model line, following the Mulsanne, the Continental GT, and the Flying Spur.

According to Bentley Motors, production of this new SUV will take place in Crewe, UK, as before, with a launch scheduled for 2016. The production will create over 1,000 jobs. Furthermore, Bentley plans to invest £800 million (approximately 122.4 billion yen) in the development of this new model over the next three years.

Given the scale of this undertaking, British Prime Minister David Cameron commented, "This investment of £800 million and the creation of 1,000 jobs are welcome news, not just for Crewe, but for the entire UK."

This first-ever Bentley SUV is expected to embody pure Bentley values in terms of luxury, performance, quality, and craftsmanship.

Only a single design sketch has been released so far, but Bentley states, "Customer reaction to the Bentley SUV concept over the past 16 months has been extremely positive."

It will likely be based on the concept model unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012, the EXP 9 F. The EXP 9 F was subsequently presented at the Beijing Motor Show and the Goodwood Festival of Speed to gather customer feedback, suggesting that market response from these opportunities led to the decision for mass production.

We look forward to further details on this new model, which is said to be faithful to Bentley's design DNA and feature styling unlike any SUV seen before.
