The Beloved Cinquecento Worldwide
Since its announcement on July 4, 2007, the 500 family has produced 1.1 million units. Sixty-five percent of these have been exported outside of Italy, attesting to its global popularity. Last year, thefour-door "500L"was introduced to this family. Marketed as a "city lounge," the 500L retained the 500's charming interior and exterior while offering spaciousness within a compact size, comfortably accommodating four people. Its optional espresso machine, a world-first, is also a memorable feature.
This year, based on the 500L, Fiat has announced the "500L Living," a minivan with an optional third row of seats, and the "500 Trekking," a sporty SUV model that enhances off-road capability through electronic devices, despite being front-wheel drive.
For the Active User
The500L Trekkingwas exhibited at this year'sGeneva Motor Showand is a variation aimed at users who prioritize an active lifestyle.
Its exterior asserts its 500 family heritage, while the front and rear bumpers, undercovers, and a 10% higher ride height of 145mm compared to the 500L add to its aggressive stance.
Beyond its looks, it features a "Traction+" system that enhances driving performance on slippery surfaces and rough terrain. This system automatically applies the brakes to a spinning wheel and distributes torque. It can be turned on or off with a button and operates up to 30 km/h.
The powertrain options include two gasoline engines: a 1.4-liter and a 0.9-liter TwinAir Turbo, along with two diesel engines: a 1.6-liter MultiJet II and a 1.3-liter MultiJet II.
A Minivan Inheriting the Charm of the Cinquecento
The 500 minivan, "500L Living," is an MPV that achieves 5+2 seating within dimensions of 4.35m (length) x 1.78m (width) x 1.67m (height).
As its name suggests, it features the 500's signature charming exterior and is characterized by agile driving that leverages its compact body. Its powertrain options include the 0.9-liter TwinAir Turbo with a maximum output of 105ps, and for diesel engines, the 1.6-liter MultiJet with 105ps and the 1.3-liter MultiJet II with 85ps.
Furthermore, the 500L Living is equipped with a "frequency dependent" shock absorber system. This system behaves rigidly for long-period vibrations, enhancing handling and stability, while responding softly to short-period vibrations from small gaps or rough surfaces, maximizing cushioning for a comfortable ride.
The cargo space can be expanded up to 1,704 liters. With the passenger seat folded down, it can accommodate long items up to 2.6 meters. While the standard configuration is for 5 passengers, an optional third row is available. A wide array of choices for body colors and interior combinations offers a total of 282 possible configurations.
