Faster, Sharper
The Bentley four-door saloon "Flying Spur," now fully redesigned after eight years, has landed in Japan.
Its details have already been explained in the venue of the announcement,Geneva Motor Showas covered in our report from Geneva.Report by Tatsuya Otani
As explained in the report by Mr. Tatsuya Otani, the subtle change of removing "Continental" from the name, leaving it simply "Flying Spur," is also noteworthy.
The exterior features a front face with a stronger sense of seamless unity, sharp press lines, changes in mirror shape, a more flowing roofline, raised door handle positions, a kick-up line at the rear, altered rear quarter glass, and horizontally oriented rear combination lamps. While maintaining the Flying Spur's characteristic identity, these numerous detailed changes have resulted in a much tighter appearance and increased luxury.
The interior, which boasts 600 new parts, has been modernized while inheriting the basic concept from its predecessor.
Focus has also been placed on the rear seats, available in 4- or 5-seater configurations. A detachable touchscreen remote controller is provided for operating the entertainment system, seats, and climate control. Furthermore, by downloading Bentley's app onto an iPhone or Android phone, users can access the same functions as the remote controller.
The standard audio system features "Balanced Mode Radiator technology" to optimize sound quality and frequency range. Additionally, an optional "Naim for Bentley Premium Audio System" is available, further enhancing comfort.
A hallmark of the Flying Spur is its excellent ride comfort coupled with outstanding dynamic performance.
Regarding ride comfort, the air suspension has been set to be softer.
Specifically, the spring rates have been softened by 10% at the front and 13% at the rear. The anti-roll bars are also more than 10% softer, and the suspension lever bushes are reportedly chosen to be over 25% softer.
And the maximum output generated by the 6.0-liter W12 twin-turbo engine is 625ps, inherited from Bentley's top athlete,Continental GT Speedwhich produces 625ps.
Thanks to the use of aluminum and other measures, rigidity has been enhanced while achieving a weight reduction of approximately 50kg. This positions it as Bentley's fastest saloon in history.
The price is 22.8 million yen. Delivery is expected in the latter half of 2013.
OPENERS will soon publish an impression piece by Mr. Tatsuya Kuijima, who was among the first to test drive this new Flying Spur. Please look forward to it.
