Pininfarina's Interpretation of BMW Design
The one-off model, the "BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe," exhibited by BMW this year in the concept car category at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, the world's most prestigious historic car concours held on the shores of Lake Como in Italy, is, as its name suggests, a luxurious (Lusso) large coupe born from the collaboration between BMW and Pininfarina.
The Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina has designed cars for numerous automotive brands, including Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, and Ford, but this marks their first collaboration with BMW. It is a fusion of the luxury inherent in a premium brand's coupe and Pininfarina's sportiness.
The fundamental design basis for the exterior remains firmly rooted in the latest BMW coupe aesthetic. At the front, there's the kidney grille that juts out like a shark's nose, and the ring-shaped headlights with their upper edges open. The window beneath the elegantly sloping roofline features the Hofmeister kink, a design element where the rear edge kicks upward, and the rear view, too, with its horizontal lines and substantial impression, is unmistakably BMW. How these elements have been processed by Pininfarina is the primary highlight of this car.
The interior is luxuriously appointed with tobacco brown leather and Kauri wood, accented by chrome lines, creating a refined atmosphere.
The wool headliner features a glen check pattern.
Regarding its specifications as an automobile, only the 21-inch custom wheels and the V12 engine have been disclosed. Judging from this, it appears to be a model positioned above the 6 Series, perhaps even a successor to the 8 Series, if it were to be a production model.
