At the "GTI Meeting" held in Austria by Volkswagen, the "Design Vision GTI," previously only shown in design sketches, finally made its appearance.
As you can see from the event photos, a large crowd gathered for this fan meeting, which runs until the 11th. Ferdinand K. Piëch, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen, was also reportedly present.
The concept model, a highlight of the show, is the "Design Vision GTI," a racing car based on the Golf.
Photos of the actual car clearly show that, unlike the previously released design sketches, it is indeed based on the 7th generation "Golf."
A 3.0-liter V6 turbo engine is housed in the front, seemingly demonstrating the flexibility of the MQB platform.
Its design, with an exterior that appears slightly recessed in the door area or as if the entire body is enveloped, projects a racing image while retaining "GTI"-esque features such as the "く"-shaped C-pillar and the red line on the front.Golf GTIand other design cues.
The LED headlights hint at a future direction for Volkswagen design beyond the Golf 7.
The interior, finished in carbon fiber and Alcantara, features eye-catching door handles with straps, reminiscent of those in the PorscheCayman R"Cayman R."
The steering wheel appears to have an engine start button and a dial for setting the driving control program, labeled Street, Sport, and Track.
The rear seats are absent, replaced by an X-shaped cross member.
Finally, reconfirming the specifications: maximum output is 503ps, maximum torque is 560Nm. It drives all four wheels via a DSG, achieving 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
