New 3.0-Liter Turbo Engine Features 3D Printing Technology

The X3 M and X4 M, marking the first time these high-performance models have been offered for the BMW X3 and X4, were developed by BMW M with circuit driving in mind.

Both models are powered by a newly developed 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder twin-turbo gasoline engine from BMW M, producing a maximum output of 353 kW (480 ps) and peak torque of 600 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission, achieving 0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds.


This new engine utilizes 3D printing technology for the first time to form the cylinder head core, enabling complex shapes that were difficult to achieve with conventional metalworking techniques, while also contributing to weight reduction.

Based on the X3 and X4, the design incorporates an aggressive and sporty style befitting M models, with the kidney grille featuring the double bars symbolic of M cars. The exterior mirrors boast an aerodynamically optimized double-ridge M mirror design, and a quad-pipe M Sport exhaust system with 100mm black tailpipes delivers a more thrilling sound.

Additionally, the X3 M and X4 M are available in a "Competition" variant, enhancing engine performance for even more focused circuit capability. These models boast an increased maximum output of 30 ps, reaching 375 kW (510 ps). Visually, the Competition models feature black accents on the kidney grille, tailpipes, mirror caps, and wheels. Inside, M multifunction seats are standard, providing a secure hold ideal for spirited driving.


Safety features include Active Cruise Control and Collision Mitigation Braking.

Pricing starts at 12.68 million yen for the X3 M and 13.68 million yen for the Competition. The X4 M is priced at 12.99 million yen, with the Competition at 13.99 million yen. Deliveries are scheduled to begin sequentially from September; deliveries after October will be subject to the 10% consumption tax rate.
