First Adoption of M-Specific Integrated Brake System

The BMW M8 has joined the "8 Series" – BMW's top-tier coupe that arrived in Japan last year – with sporty tuning inside and out by BMW M. It will reign as BMW M's flagship model.

The heart of the M8 is the same 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo gasoline engine found in the regular 8 Series, but tuning has increased its maximum output to 441 kW (600 ps) and peak torque to 750 Nm. The "Competition" model, designed for more aggressive sports driving, further boosts maximum output to 460 kW (625 ps).

Both models transmit power to all four wheels via an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, with the Competition model achieving 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.2 seconds.

In addition to the ability for drivers to customize engine response, steering, and suspension characteristics – a hallmark of BMW M models – the system now includes adjustable brake system settings. Furthermore, a new "M Mode" button has been added to the center console.

The brakes feature the M-specific integrated brake system for the first time. By compactly integrating functions such as brake actuation and control, and employing a non-vacuum brake booster, approximately 2 kg of weight has been saved. Brake pressure is generated by an electric actuator, enabling quicker and more precise control.

The exterior retains the luxurious ambiance of the base 8 Series, while the interior creates a space that blends aggressive design with elegance. Red M buttons and the center console's start/stop button provide accents, and the new selector lever cover is engraved with the M logo.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in December of this year. With the 10% consumption tax rate applied, the M8 is priced at 22.3 million yen, and the M8 Competition at 24.33 million yen.
