Announcing 50th Anniversary GT-R and Fairlady Z
On April 17, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. unveiled the 2020 model of the "GT-R," along with the "GT-R 50th Anniversary" and "Fairlady Z 50th Anniversary" models commemorating their 50th birthdays, to the press at NISSAN CROSSING in Ginza, Tokyo, the company's information hub.

The 2020 GT-R: Pursuing the "Quality of Speed"
The 2020 model of the "GT-R," a sports car that constantly deepens its pursuit of ultimate driving pleasure, incorporates racing technology into its acceleration and handling to achieve a "quality of speed."
The 3.8-liter V6 twin-turbo engine, hand-assembled by artisans one by one, features the "ablatable seal" high-efficiency racing turbocharger used in the NISMO model. By minimizing air leaks, it achieves responsiveness that instantly matches the driver's acceleration intentions.
Furthermore, the shift schedule for the R-mode-exclusive Adaptive Shift Control (ASC) has been set more aggressively to enable shifts that allow drivers to fully enjoy engine performance during cornering. The booster characteristics have been tuned to provide a confident braking feel.
Additionally, it features a newly designed wheel and a blue-glowing titanium exhaust finisher handcrafted by artisans. The body color lineup includes a new color, "Wangan Blue," which adds light-interfering pigments to a transparent blue base, evoking the lingering hues of sunset over the bay.
Scheduled for release in June 2019, prices range from 10,631,520 to 12,105,720 yen.
For the high-performance "GT-R NISMO" model, turbo improvements, expanded use of carbon parts, and the adoption of carbon brakes have been implemented to achieve even more refined performance. The new turbocharger is derived from the 2018 racing car; for the NISMO version, the number of blades has been reduced from 11 to 10 to improve boost response, while fluid dynamics simulations have been used to alter the shape, successfully preventing flow rate reduction.
Furthermore, by making the engine hood, fenders, and roof—components located farthest from the vehicle's center of gravity—from carbon, the car achieves improved dynamic performance and a total weight reduction of 10.5 kg. An air duct has been added to the fenders to accommodate reduced ground load, which reduces surface lift at speeds above 250 km/h and increases downforce on the front tires.
The newly developed carbon-ceramic brakes are among the world's largest at 410mm in diameter. A new high-rigidity caliper in yellow, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1,000 degrees Celsius, has also been adopted. The seats are from an improved RECARO model. Pre-orders began in May 2019, with pricing yet to be announced.

Anniversary Models Commemorating the 50th Birthday
The "Skyline 2000GT-R," born in 1969, was active in numerous race scenes, including the Japan Grand Prix of its era. The "GT-R 50th Anniversary" commemorates its 50th birthday.
The exterior features a two-tone color scheme inspired by that racing car. Notably, the new Wangan Blue model adopted for the 2020 model reproduces the classic Nissan racing team colors in combination with high-quality white stickers.
This model comes standard with blue-spoke wheels coordinated with the body color, giving the entire car a blue appearance while in motion.
The base model is the 2020 Premium Edition, available in Brilliant White Pearl x Red Sticker and Ultimate Silver x White Sticker combinations. The rear is adorned with a GT-R 50th Anniversary badge and sticker.
The interior features a sophisticated medium-gray exclusive color scheme, with the 50th-anniversary logo placed on the center console, meters, and seats. It will be available from June this year as a limited-edition model until the end of March 2020.
The "Fairlady Z 50th Anniversary," on the other hand, is presented as a model that recreates in a new form the "Datsun 240Z BRE," which won the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) race in 1970, built by BRE (Block Racing Enterprises) led by legendary race car designer Pete Brock.
The exterior comes in two color combinations: Brilliant White x By-Brand Red and Brilliant Silver x Diamond Black. It features 50th-anniversary stickers on the front fenders, a rear badge, and 19-inch aluminum wheels with red lines on the rims.
The interior incorporates an Alcantara steering wheel with a center stripe evoking a racing car, a shift knob in a dedicated color, kicking plates, and seats and door trims with special stitching. The 50th-anniversary logos on the seats, around the shift knob, and within the meters enhance the sense of exclusivity.
It is scheduled for release around summer this year and, like the GT-R, will be a limited-edition model until the end of March 2020. Pricing is yet to be determined.
At the press conference, alongside Mr. Kinichi Tanuma, GT-R Chief Engineer who explained the vehicle's overview, Ms. Asako Hoshino, Executive Officer of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., who took the stage to offer greetings, shared an anecdote: "When I was young, I desperately wanted to buy a GT-R (R32 model), and after staring at my savings passbook, I unfortunately couldn't afford it."
She stated that the GT-R and Fairlady Z are the pinnacle of Nissan's passion and objects of global admiration. She also touched upon the next-generation GT-R, suggesting that electrification is a strong possibility.
