3.0-Liter Inline-Six Turbo "OM656" Introduced
Born in 1979 as a cross-country vehicle, the "G-Class" has long maintained its basic styling and robust body while its powertrain and equipment have been updated.last year's model changeis still fresh in our memory.
A diesel model has now been added to the latest G-Class. The engine is the 3.0-liter inline-six turbo "OM656" used in models such as theS 400 d"S 400 d," and Mercedes-Benz claims it also offers environmental performance, complying with the RED (Real Driving Emissions) regulations introduced in Europe.
Specifications show an improved maximum output of 210kW (286ps) and a maximum torque of 600Nm, with 0-100km/h acceleration in 7.4 seconds. The turbocharger uses a two-stage system, with a variable turbine geometry further employed in the smaller turbine, reportedly enabling more torque-rich acceleration.
The transmission is the 9-speed automatic "9G-TRONIC," featuring an aluminum torque converter housing and a magnesium gear housing. Despite having two additional forward gears, it is 1kg lighter than the previous "7G-TRONIC." Furthermore, the extra gears allow the engine to operate at lower RPMs at the same speed by using higher gears, contributing to fuel efficiency.
The price is 11.7 million yen, with deliveries scheduled for around July of this year.
