Announcements on Race Team Support and Upcoming Events

At the Audi Sport conference 2019, held on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, details of the 2019 Audi Sport customer racing team structure were announced.

This includes one team with one car competing in the SUPER GT GT300 class with the Audi R8 LMS, one team with one car competing in the Super Taikyu Series ST-X class with the Audi R8 LMS, and four teams with four cars competing in the ST-TCR class with the Audi RS 3 LMS.

Furthermore, strong support will be provided through parts supply to three teams with four cars competing in the new TCR Japan series starting this year with the Audi RS 3 LMS, totaling nine teams and ten cars in customer (private) teams. The TCR series is a sprint race using 2-liter or smaller turbocharged, front-wheel-drive cars with four or five doors.

The Audi R8 LMS, used in the SUPER GT GT300 class and Super Taikyu Series ST-X class, is a racing car compliant with FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) GT3 regulations, based on the production model Audi R8. It was developed in parallel with the production model, with a 50 percent parts commonality.

It features the new generation Audi Space Frame (ASF) constructed from a composite of aluminum and CFRP. The naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine produces a maximum output of 585 PS. From this season, aerodynamics and cooling functions have been optimized, and the durability of the drivetrain has been improved.

Meanwhile, the Audi RS 3 LMS is a racing car compliant with the FIA-sanctioned TCR series for touring cars, based on the Audi RS 3 Sedan. Like the Audi R8 LMS, it was developed by Audi Sport. Its reasonable vehicle price allows many customers to participate, making it highly popular among private teams.

Since 2016, Audi Sport customer racing has supported participating customer teams by deploying parts trailers to circuits. This year, dedicated trailers will be equipped with approximately 2,500 items and 10,200 parts, including body, transmission, and engine components, all compliant with race regulations. This setup ensures readiness for any race scenario as teams compete alongside those participating in SUPER GT, Super Taikyu, and TCR Japan at circuits both domestically and internationally.

In addition, this event announced the continuation of the 'Audi race experience' program, which allows Audi owners to gain actual race participation rights, following last year's event. Furthermore, a new driving training program exclusively for female drivers, the 'Audi Women’s driving experience,' was also announced.

Events for Audi Sport owners and fans, such as the 'Audi ice experience,' 'Audi Sport Owners Meeting,' and 'Audi Sport Days 2019,' will continue to be held.
