A Special Model Paying Homage to the Historic Number 9 Blower
Bentley celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, a Continental GT featuring unique design elements, limited to just 100 units worldwide, has been unveiled.
The Continental GT Number 9 Edition by Mulliner is said to be an homage to Sir Henry Ralph Stanley "Tim" Birkin, a racing driver and investor prominent in the 1920s and 1930s.
In 1930, Birkin commissioned Bentley to create the Number 9 car, a 4.5-liter supercharged "Blower," for the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. This green Blower, which achieved numerous brilliant records, remains an indispensable part of Bentley's history.
The newly announced limited edition model draws inspiration from the Number 9 Blower and has been meticulously crafted into a unique vehicle by Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner.
The body is available in two colors: Viridian Green and Beluga Black. Exterior highlights include a prominent "9" badge on the front, 21-inch ten-spoke wheels in the same color as the body, and an optional carbon fiber body kit.
The interior is adorned with traditional leather hides, also available in two types. The headrests and door panels feature the letter "B," echoing the design of the 1930 Blower's door pads. The center console showcases a distinctive dashboard with an "engine spin" pattern, a finish often used on 1920s-1930s racing cars and aircraft for its anti-glare properties.
Furthermore, the instrument panel's rotating display, a feature in recent Continental GT models, incorporates wood fragments recovered from the original No. 9 Blower, allowing the driver to feel a connection to history.
The powertrain features a 6.0-liter W12 engine, achieving 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, a top speed of 333 km/h, and a range of approximately 800 km.
The Bentley Continental GT Number 9 Edition by Mulliner, a limited run of 100 units for Bentley's centenary, is poised to be the ultimate collector's item for Bentley enthusiasts.
