The BMW 8 Series Cabriolet is based on the top-tier "8 Series Coupe" which arrived in Japan at the end of 2018.8 Series CoupeThe electric soft-top, adopted for this model, can be opened or closed in just 15 seconds at speeds up to 50 km/h. Its shape is designed with smooth, flowing lines to complement the beautiful bodywork, creating an elegant and refined appearance even when the roof is closed.

The body measures 4,855mm long, 1,900mm wide, and 1,345mm high. Carbon fiber is used for internal structural components and aluminum for body panels, effectively managing the vehicle's weight to 2,120kg, an increase of 130kg over the coupe.

The engine is the same 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo as the coupe, producing a maximum output of 530ps (390kW) at 5,500-6,000rpm and a maximum torque of 750Nm at 1,800-4,600rpm. Paired with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission and the xDrive all-wheel-drive system with continuously variable torque distribution, it achieves 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds, just 0.2 seconds slower than the coupe. The chassis features the Adaptive M Suspension Professional with active suspension and electronic active roll stabilization, along with an M active differential, ensuring enhanced stability and agility during cornering.

The exterior design, apart from the roof, largely follows the coupe's styling. Features include the kidney grille framed by a single piece of trim, BMW Laserlight headlights, sculpted lines on the body sides behind the front wheels, and a powerful silhouette at the rear symbolizing driving force, all contributing to its luxurious presence.

The 2+2 interior features Merino leather seats. Befitting an open-top model, it includes an Air Collar system that blows warm air from the headrests of the front seats, and a wind deflector between the front and rear seats. The shift lever features a Crafted Clarity finish with the number "8" subtly integrated into the crystal. The 10.25-inch Control Display and 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, running BMW Operating System 7.0, along with ambient lighting, are identical to the coupe. The trunk capacity is 280 liters.

The driver assistance systems are also state-of-the-art, including Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Lane Change Warning, and Steering and Lane Control Assist. The Parking Assistant features a Reversing Assistant function, which can recall the vehicle's path for up to 50 meters traveled in reverse, allowing it to accurately retrace its route. This system is particularly useful for safely navigating back onto the original path when encountering narrow roads common in Japan. The price is ¥18,380,000.
