Audi: Full Model Change for the RS 4 Avant, the Top of the A4 Series

The RS 4 Avant, the pinnacle of the A4 series, receives a full model change.

Audi Japan announced on Monday, January 28th, that the station wagon "RS 4 Avant" has undergone a full model change and sales have commenced.

Maximum torque increased by 170 Nm to 600 Nm.

AudiA4 familyThe RS 4 Avant, positioned at the apex of the A4 family and developed by Audi Sport GmbH, Audi's high-end sports model development hub, has received a full model change.

The engine is a 2.9-liter V6 twin-turbo unit producing a maximum output of 331 kW (450 ps) and a maximum torque of 600 Nm. Compared to the previous 4.2-liter DOHC, the maximum output remains the same, but the maximum torque has been increased by 170 Nm.

The transmission is an 8-speed Tiptronic, and the drivetrain is the quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system. Furthermore, the rear axle is equipped with a sport differential that optimizes the distribution of driving force between the left and right wheels, reportedly enhancing high-speed stability and handling. While achieving 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.1 seconds, it also realizes improved fuel efficiency compared to the previous model, with a JC08 mode fuel consumption of 11.2 km/ℓ.

The exterior draws inspiration from the "Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO," which once enlivened the North American motorsport scene. The adoption of the RS model's exclusive single-frame grille, large air inlets, front and rear bumpers, and rear diffuser emphasizes its sporty character.

The interior features a horizontal design theme, equipped with RS-exclusive items such as S sport seats in Fine Nappa leather, an R multifunction sport steering wheel, and a shift gate.

The meter panel includes the Audi Virtual Cockpit, a 12.3-inch LCD display that can show not only the speedometer and tachometer but also information such as navigation and torque values as standard. Audi Connect provides continuous internet connectivity for news, weather forecasts, parking searches, and other information, as well as the "Audi Connect Navigator" concierge service, which allows for reservations and arrangements through a dedicated operator.
