Displaying a "THIS IS NOT A CAR" object to foster dialogue about the future of automobiles

Cars have always been the star of motor shows, perpetually presented on turntables at the center of the stage. Challenging this convention, Volvo has announced it will not exhibit a car at "Automobility LA."

"Automobility LA" has been held around the time of the Los Angeles Auto Show since the year before last, to discuss pressing issues surrounding the future of transportation and mobility. This year, it is being held just before the Los Angeles Auto Show.

What Volvo will be exhibiting at the venue is an object with the words "THIS IS NOT A CAR" written on it. Alongside this, interactive displays will showcase Volvo's vision for the future of our relationship with cars, including concepts like "in-car delivery," "car sharing," autonomous driving, and connectivity services.

Mårten Levenstam, Senior Vice President of Volvo Cars, commented, "At Automobility LA, we want to start a conversation about the future of the automobile. Therefore, instead of bringing a concept car, we will talk about the concept of the automobile."

Volvo aims to have half of its annual vehicle sales be fully electric cars and one-third be autonomous vehicles by the mid-2020s, and is promoting partnerships with companies such as Amazon and Google.
