It has been 64 years since the first Beetle Cabriolet appeared in 1949. The third generation "The Beetle Cabriolet" has finally begun sales in Japan.
The electric soft top can be opened and closed with the flick of a switch, taking 9.5 seconds to open and 11 seconds to close. It can also be operated while driving at speeds below 50 km/h.
It comes standard with chrome parts adorning the front grille, side windows, and side skirts, as well as a rear spoiler and 16-inch aluminum wheels. The interior features leather seats, with equipment comparable to the closed-body "The Beetle Design Leather Package."
The interior panels have a playful design, with some parts matching the body color. The trunk capacity is 225 liters, and the rear seats, which were fixed in the previous model, can now be folded down in a split configuration, allowing for the transport of longer items.
The standard navigation system "712SDCW" is equipped with online traffic information that creates congestion data by analyzing the location and travel times of multiple taxis, and DSRC that receives wide-area traffic information from ITS spots. Additionally, six map updates per year (one of which is a complete map update) are provided free of charge for two years.
Safety features are also comprehensive, including bi-xenon headlights for clear nighttime visibility, and side airbags with head protection and rollover protection to safeguard occupants in the event of an accident.
The model introduced in Japan is a single grade, equipped with a 1.2-liter TSI engine producing 77 kW (105 PS). It is paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission and is available in right-hand drive. The price is 3.75 million yen.
