The most fuel-efficient four-wheel-drive vehicle
The four-wheel-drive model, a staple of the Golf since its introduction in the second generation in 1986, has been quickly added to the seventh generation. This 4MOTION features the fifth-generation Haldex coupling, which is 1.4 kg lighter than its predecessor. It requires no accumulator, allowing for agile response and contributing to enhanced safety and handling.
While equipped as standard with the electronic differential lock system "EDS" and "XDS," which brakes the inner wheel during high-speed cornering to improve handling, its defining characteristic is its control over all four wheels, unlike the FF model. Torque distribution can be flexibly adjusted, from 100 percent to the front wheels during low-load driving, to 50:50 front-to-rear, and even close to 100 percent to the rear wheels depending on road conditions.
In its home market, this 4MOTIONTwo engine options: 105ps and 150psis paired with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder diesel turbo engine, achieving impressive fuel economy figures of 4.5 L/100 km for the former and 4.7 L/100 km for the latter. This represents a 15 percent (0.8 L/100 km) improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the previous Golf, which had a 140ps diesel turbo engine, while also increasing maximum output by 10ps.
All grades feature eco-friendly functions such as the "Start/Stop System" and "Brake Energy Recuperation System," along with the latest safety equipment, including automatic emergency braking and seven airbags.
Volkswagen confidently claims this Golf 7 4MOTION to be "the most fuel-efficient four-wheel-drive vehicle," and it will be sold in Germany starting from 1,800 euros.
