DS's Flagship 'DS 7 Crossback' Lands in Japan

On Tuesday, July 17, Peugeot Citroën Japon announced and began sales of the DS 7 Crossback, the flagship model of the DS brand and its first SUV.

A Premium SUV with Glimpses of French Flair Throughout

The 'DS 7 Crossback,' first unveiled in Paris last year, has finally arrived in Japan. It is a premium SUV from France, which the company proclaims as 'heralding the second act of DS Automobiles.'

The body measures 4,590mm in length, 1,895mm in width, and 1,635mm in height, placing it in the C-segment size class. Like other DS models, it features the DS Wings grille, with LED lights extending from it, accentuating the front design like pavé-set jewels.

Two engine options are available: a diesel turbo and a gasoline turbo. The entry-grade 'So Chic' and the higher-grade 'Grand Chic' utilize the same 2.0-liter diesel turbo engine found in the 'DS 4' and 'DS 5,' producing a maximum output of 133kW (177ps) and a maximum torque of 400Nm.

The 'Grand Chic' also offers a newly developed 1.6-liter turbo gasoline engine, producing a maximum output of 165kW (225ps) and a maximum torque of 300Nm. Both are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and drive the front wheels.

As befits a flagship model, safety equipment is also comprehensive. Features such as 'DS Connected Pilot,' which maintains a set distance from the vehicle ahead on highways, and 'DS Active Scan Suspension,' which uses a multifunction camera to scan road conditions for a smoother ride, are standard on all grades.

The DS character is also evident in the interior. The Grand Chic is available in three trims named after Parisian districts: 'Opéra,' 'Rivoli,' and 'Bastille' for the So Chic. The top-tier 'Opéra' features seats inspired by watch bracelets, creating a distinctive cabin ambiance.

Eight body colors are offered. Prices are 5.62 million yen for the Grand Chic with the diesel engine and 5.42 million yen for the gasoline engine. The So Chic with the diesel engine is priced at 4.69 million yen.
