Freelander 2 Features Downsized Engine

The two core SUV models from Land Rover,Discovery 4andFreelander 2are evolving into 2013 models. The Freelander 2 sees the most significant changes, with its first powertrain update since its debut in 2007.

The 3.2-liter V6 engine previously found in the Freelander 2 will be replaced byRange Rover Evoquean all-aluminum 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine, also used in the Range Rover Evoque. This new engine produces a maximum output of 240ps at 5,500rpm and a peak torque of 340Nm between 2,000-4,000rpm, slightly surpassing the 3.2-liter engine's 232ps at 6,300rpm and 317Nm at 3,200rpm. As a benefit of this downsizing, fuel efficiency improves by 1.0 km/l to 9.0 km/l under the JC08 mode.

Exterior updates include LED lighting for the headlamps and tail lamps. Inside, the Freelander 2 will feature, for the first time in its history, a 17-speaker, 825W audio system developed by premium audio brand Meridian.

Discovery 4: Minor Interior and Exterior Revisions

The Discovery 4 continues to be powered by the same 5-liter V8 engine, offered in two grades: "5.0V8 HSE" and "5.0V8 SE."

While there are no major changes, minor revisions have been made to exterior and interior color schemes. Both the 5.0V8 HSE and 5.0V8 SE will come standard with 19-inch aluminum wheels.

The 19-inch wheels standard on the 5.0V8 SE are the 10-spoke wheels previously standard on the 5.0V8 HSE, while the HSE model receives a new design of 7-spoke aluminum wheels.

Both models will be released on February 2, 2013. Pricing is set at 3.99 million yen for the "Freelander 2," 6.76 million yen for the "Discovery 4" 5.0V8 SE, and 7.96 million yen for the 5.0V8 HSE.
