Volkswagen Motorsport, the team that achieved three consecutive victories in the Paris-Dakar Rally, has developed the "Polo R WRC 2013" and announced its participation in the World Rally Championship (WRC).

Volkswagen Motorsport has unveiled the "Polo R WRC Street," based on the current fifth-generation Polo and equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder direct-injection turbo engine. It boasts a maximum output of 162 kW (220 ps) and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. The transmission is a 6-speed manual. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, reaches a top speed of 243 km/h, and emits 174 g/km of CO2. This is the fastest Polo yet.

The lowered special chassis rides on 18-inch wheels, with large 16-inch disc brakes and blue brake calipers at the front. The front spoiler with its large air intakes, along with the rear diffuser and roof spoiler, are details inspired by the rally car, as is the WRC logo on the seats.

Production will be limited to 2,500 units. It is available only in left-hand drive and is priced at 33,900 euros (approximately 3.62 million yen). Deliveries are scheduled to begin next September.
