Ahead of the Geneva Motor Show's opening, teasers of the Lexus "UX" compact crossover were gradually released.UX"UX" finally revealed its full form.
Information released in conjunction with the Geneva Motor Show, which opened on Tuesday, March 6th local time, indicates that the engine lineup will include a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder direct-injection engine and a newly developed 2.0-liter hybrid system. Additionally, a sporty "F SPORT" model will be available.
Notably, the newly developed hybrid system, paired with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder direct-injection engine, optimizes motor assist and engine speed. It can also precisely control the hybrid battery's charging and discharging based on the driver's behavior and navigation map data.
Furthermore, a newly developed "Direct Shift-CVT" transmission is employed. This system adds a gear for starting in addition to the conventional belt and pulley drive. Lexus claims this leads to a direct starting and acceleration feel and contributes to improved fuel efficiency.
In addition, the adoption of the GA-C platform achieves both weight reduction and a low center of gravity. Moreover, increased body rigidity contributes to steering responsiveness and stability.
The exterior expresses a powerful stance with bulging front and rear fenders extending from the cabin's center towards the larger diameter tires. The interior features a design that blends robust structural elements, reminiscent of a strong skeleton, in areas like the center console and door armrests, with Japanese aesthetics, such as quilting inspired by the traditional embroidery technique "sashiko" on the front seats.
The safety equipment includes the second-generation "Lexus Safety System+", incorporating features such as "Pre-Collision Safety" which can detect pedestrians at night.
The Lexus UX, the latest Lexus SUV model, is scheduled for release in Japan around winter 2018.
