Audi Q5 Launched in Japan After Minor Model Change
Minor model change in MayAudi's premium SUV, the "Q5," has been launched in Japan. The powertrain has been significantly revised, featuring a new 2.0-liter direct-injection turbo engine that boasts higher output and improved fuel efficiency, alongside a 3.0-liter supercharged engine variant that replaces the previous 3.2-liter naturally aspirated engine. The lineup will be available in these two grades.

As we reported when the minor model change was announced in Germany, the focus of this update for the Audi Q5 is the powertrain.
The inline four-cylinder turbo engine in the 2.0-liter model, the "Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI quattro," has been replaced by a newly developed successor, taking over from the highly regarded previous 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine that produced 155kW (211ps).
While the number of cylinders and displacement of 1,984cc remain unchanged, the maximum output has increased by 10kW (13ps) to 165kW (224ps), available from 4,500rpm, which is 500rpm lower than before. The maximum torque of 350Nm (35.7kgm) is delivered from 1,500rpm, and according to Audi Japan, it exhibits a torque curve similar to that of a four-cylinder turbo diesel engine.
Meanwhile, the adoption of features such as indirect fuel injection and the "Audi valvelift system," which adjusts exhaust valve lift in two stages, contributes to a fuel economy of 12.5 km/ℓ in the JC08 mode (the previous model achieved 10.6 km/ℓ in 10-15 mode).
The model previously equipped with the 3.2-liter naturally aspirated engine is now renamed the "Audi Q5 3.0 TFSI quattro" and features a 3.0-liter V6 engine. This engine houses a supercharger within the V-bank, and fuel economy is rated at 11.1 km/ℓ, a 15 percent improvement over the previous model. It delivers a maximum output of 200kW (272ps) at 2,500-4,780rpm, a maximum torque of 400Nm (40.9kgm) at 2,500-4,780rpm, accelerates from 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 234km/h.
Furthermore, the transmission has been updated from the previous 7-speed automatic "S tronic" to the 8-speed dual-clutch "Tiptronic."
Additionally, the newly developed electric power steering, now standard on all models, consumes no energy when the vehicle is driving straight ahead, contributing to a fuel saving of 0.3 liters per 100 km. The steering gear ratio is 15.9:1, and the minimum turning radius is approximately 5.8 meters.
The exterior design has also seen minor changes. LED daytime running lights now encircle the outer edges of the headlights, and the upper corners of the single-frame grille have been softened. The struts within the grille have been redesigned to emphasize vertical lines, giving the overall appearance a shape that aligns with Audi's current Q model family.
The drivetrain is the "quattro" all-wheel drive system. An adaptive cruise control system, which automatically applies full braking if a frontal collision is predicted below 30 km/h, is also available as an option.
The steering wheel is for right-hand drive only. The interior, enhanced with a more luxurious ambiance, offers options such as a Bang & Olufsen sound system and an electric panoramic sunroof.
The price for the "Q5 2.0 TFSI quattro" is 5.79 million yen, and the "Q5 3.0 TFSI quattro" is 6.73 million yen.
