Hybrid First Model Unveiled


Volvo has announced a new concept to establish Polestar as an independent electric performance brand. Concurrently, the styling of the first model, the hybrid car Polestar 1, scheduled for release in 2019, was revealed.

This July,Introduce electric powertrains to all models from 2019Volvo announced. Between 2019 and 2021, five EV models were to be launched, three of which would be sold under the Polestar brand. Now, a glimpse of the full picture is emerging.


First, Polestar will become a standalone brand specializing in electric models. The design and specifications of the first model, the HV Polestar 1, were announced, along with details about the second model, the EV Polestar 2.

The Polestar 1 adopts the style of a two-door, 2+2-seater grand tourer coupe. As a hybrid car that also uses an engine, it boasts a maximum output of 600ps and a peak torque of 1,000Nm. Furthermore, it is capable of traveling 150km on electric power alone.


The body is based on Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), with approximately 50% newly engineered by Polestar's own engineers. It incorporates the latest technologies, including a lightweight carbon fiber body and a new continuous electronic-controlled suspension (CESi) from Öhlins.

Production is slated to take place at Polestar's production center in Chengdu, China, with completion expected in mid-next year, according to an announcement.


The sales method also marks a departure from the past. Orders will be taken exclusively online, utilizing a subscription model where users pay a monthly fee based on a two- or three-year contract. Reservations have already begun.


Volvo plans to begin production of the Polestar 2, its first EV and a competitor to the Tesla Model 3, by the end of 2019. Additionally, an SUV EV, the Polestar 3, is also planned for introduction.
