Exterior Design Retains Key Concepts

Debuting in 2002 and minor-changed in '06,the second generationbecamea minor change in '14and continued to evolve smoothly, with strong sales. The Porsche SUV "Cayenne" has finally undergone a full model change to its third generation in 2017.

The new model features a powerful turbo engine, a new 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission and chassis system, and a display and control concept with comprehensive connectivity, taking Porsche's characteristic driving dynamics and exceptional practicality to a new level.

At launch, the lineup will consist of two grades: the standard "Cayenne" and the high-performance "Cayenne S."

Compared to the previous model, the new body size is 63mm longer, 25mm wider, and 9mm lower, measuring 4,918mm in length, 1,983mm in width, and 1,696mm in height. The wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,895mm. Despite the increased body size, the use of an all-aluminum exterior has reduced the dry weight from 2,040kg to 1,985kg.

The exterior design of the third-generation Cayenne, based on Porsche's iconic911, retains its key concepts. The large front air intakes and the horizontally designed LED headlight edges emphasize width and sportiness. The rear lights feature a three-dimensional design, connected by a slender LED strip, above which a new, three-dimensional Porsche logo extends.

The interior, featuring the Porsche Advanced Cockpit, is highly digitized. The center of the dashboard houses a 12.3-inch HD touchscreen equipped with the latest generation Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, which was also introduced with the newPanameralast year. Digital functions can be operated via intuitive voice control, and online navigation and internet access are also available. In front of the driver, a traditional analog tachometer is complemented by two 7-inch displays on either side, showing all driving data and information selected via the multifunction steering wheel.

New Engine and Chassis, Equipped with Innovative Rear-Axle Steering

The 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbo engine in the "Cayenne" produces a maximum output of 250 kW (340 PS) and a maximum torque of 450 Nm, exceeding the previous generation by 29 kW (40 PS). It achieves 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds (5.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package) and a top speed of 245 km/h. The 2.9-liter V6 twin-turbo engine in the "Cayenne S" delivers a maximum output of 324 kW (440 PS) and a maximum torque of 550 Nm, exceeding the previous generation by 15 kW (20 PS). It boasts high performance with 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.2 seconds (4.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package) and a top speed of 265 km/h.

The transmission is a newly developed 8-speed Tiptronic S, with sport ratios enhancing performance both on and off-road, while long ratios ensure optimal fuel efficiency and comfortable high-speed cruising.

Both models also feature an actively controlled all-wheel-drive system. The off-road modes include four settings: mud, gravel, sand, and rock, allowing for easy selection of optimal settings according to driving conditions.

A significant development is the inclusion of electric rear-axle steering, adopted from the latest 911 and Panamera, in the new Cayenne. This improves agility in corners and stability during high-speed lane changes, while also reducing the turning radius for enhanced everyday usability.

The optional "3-chamber adaptive air suspension" and the "Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control System (PDCC)" for roll stabilization are both newly developed. The "Integrated Porsche 4D Chassis Control system" manages these active chassis systems in real-time.
