Introduction of Plug-in Hybrid

The powertrain of the plug-in hybrid (PHV) model "E 350 e Avantgarde Sports," a highlight of this update, combines a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder direct-injection turbo engine producing 211 hp (155 kW) and 350 Nm of torque with an electric motor delivering 88 hp (65 kW) and 450 Nm of torque, featuring a boost function. The system as a whole produces 286 hp (210 kW) and 550 Nm, capable of delivering performance that leverages the characteristics of the gasoline engine, EV, or hybrid depending on the situation.

Not only does the combination of the latest generation engine and high-output motor provide seamless acceleration, but the electric motor alone can achieve speeds of up to 130 km/h, enabling driving across a wide range of conditions from urban streets to highways.

There are four selectable driving modes. "HYBRID" uses both the engine and electric motor in combination, adapting to driving conditions and battery level, and is the most standard mode. "E-MODE" is the EV mode, running solely on the electric motor, with a maximum range of 20.1 km. Additionally, "E-SAVE" maintains the current battery charge level for later motor use, and "CHARGE" actively recharges the battery through regenerative braking while driving.

Furthermore, the PHV model features dedicated functions that link the standard "Mercedes me connect" with a smartphone. These include "Remote Vehicle Status" to check charging status and remaining range, "Pre-conditioning" for remote climate control activation, and "Charging Schedule" to set charging start times for optimal use of off-peak electricity or for departure.

The fuel efficiency for the E 350 e is 15.7 km/L under the JC08 mode. Charging the lithium-ion battery takes less than 1 hour for a full charge in "CHARGE" mode, or within 4 hours using an AC 200V power source.

The price is ¥7.98 million. The vehicle is fully exempt from automobile weight tax and acquisition tax due to eco-car tax reductions. A campaign is also underway to support the installation costs of a charging wall unit for new PHV buyers.
