Regarding the BMW 8 Series, the camouflaged "8 Series Prototype" recently revealedwas followed by the unveiling of the design study model, the "Concept 8 Series."
This Concept 8 Series is a four-seater large coupe with a long hood and a flowing roofline. Its form is described as a new interpretation of BMW's design language.
The front features a kidney grille positioned lower and wider than current models, along with hexagonal laser headlights, giving it a familiar BMW look while also presenting a fresh impression. Large air intakes with carbon fiber mesh on both sides of the front apron emphasize the wide and low stance, highlighting its sportiness.
On the sides, the Air Breather behind the front wheels opens not on the side but into the door, channeling air backward. A character line flows upward from there, visually expressing the airflow. It connects to the edge of the rear combination lamps that wrap around to the sides. The rear end is equipped with a carbon fiber diffuser, enhancing its sports coupe appeal.
The body, which can appear blue or gray, utilizes a special paint named Barcelona Grey Liquid, which exhibits a variety of iridescent expressions depending on the light.
The interior is based on dark brown and fjord white Merino leather, accented with carbon fiber and hand-polished aluminum, creating a space that blends emotion and sportiness. The shift lever and iDrive controller feature smoked quartz-like Swarovski crystals, adding a luxurious and glamorous touch befitting a luxury coupe.
BMW's new large coupe model, the 8 Series, based on this design study, is slated for release in 2018. As mentioned with the prototype, alongside the standard model, the "M8" and the circuit-focused "M8 GTE" are also being developed concurrently.
