Achieving Both High Torque and Low Fuel Consumption

BMW is actively promoting the introduction of diesel engine models to Japan. Already, we have seen the introduction of diesel models such as theX5", the320d", and the320d Touring", and the"523d," and "523d Touring"diesel engine models introduced to Japan. Now, a diesel engine model has been added to the compact SAV "X3."



Like previous models bearing the BluePerformance designation, the "X3 xDrive 20d BluePerformance" is a clean diesel that treats NOx (nitrogen oxides), a concern with diesel engines, using an NOx storage-reduction catalyst. It complies with Japan's "Post New Long-Term Regulations," the world's highest standard for emission regulations.



The 2.0-liter straight-four turbo engine at its heart produces a maximum output of 135kW (184ps) at 4,000rpm and a maximum torque of 380Nm at 1,750-2,750rpm. As is characteristic of diesel engines, it excels in torque. BMW states that this torque is dynamically distributed between the front and rear wheels through its xDrive four-wheel-drive technology, achieving appropriate traction and powerful driving.



The transmission is an electronically controlled 8-speed automatic transmission (with Steptronic). It is also equipped with familiar BMW high-efficiency features such as the brake energy regeneration system, engine auto start/stop function, Driving Performance Control with ECO PRO mode, speed-sensitive power steering "Servotronic," and bi-xenon headlights with LED small light rings. The fuel economy in JC08 mode is 18.6 km/ℓ.



The price is set at 5.64 million yen, an increase of 230,000 yen compared to the "X3 xDrive20i."
