An Intermediate Between the M4 Competition and M4 GTS
The "M4," a high-performance model that balances everyday drivability with circuit-ready capabilities. Currently, the "M4" lineup includes the enhanced "M4 Competition" and the circuit-focused"M4 GTS"special high-performance model "M4 GTS." Now, the "M4 CS," positioned between these two, has been created in a limited production run.
The engine is the same 3-liter inline six-cylinder twin-turbocharged unit found in the M4. However, through tuning by M GmbH., the developers of M models, the maximum output has been increased to"M4 Competition"338 kW (460 ps), an increase of 7 kW (10 ps) over the "M4 Competition," and the maximum torque has been boosted by 50 Nm to 600 Nm. The transmission is the double-clutch "M DCT," achieving 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and a lap time of 7 minutes 38 seconds on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The standard "Adaptive M Suspension" allows for three selectable driving modes with different damper settings: Comfort, Sport, and Sport+. The "Active M Differential" continuously exchanges data with the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), contributing to driving stability and traction under various conditions.
Furthermore, the adoption of M Dynamic Mode enables light drifting, allowing for more dynamic driving experiences, as stated by BMW.
To harness this performance, weight reduction has also been a key focus. The use of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) for components such as the engine hood, roof, and rear diffuser has resulted in a weight of 1,580 kg, a 25% reduction compared to the M4.
The exterior is characterized by three large air intakes. At the rear, a CFRP rear spoiler enhances the sporty aesthetic while simultaneously reducing lift on the rear axle, optimizing road holding and traction.
The wheels are specially developed forged alloy units, 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear. Weighing 9 kg at the front and 10 kg at the rear, these lightweight, 10-spoke wheels are inspired by the "M4 racer" that competed in the German Touring Car Masters (DTM).
The interior exudes a sense of luxury with its combination of leather and Alcantara. The M4 logo is illuminated on the backrest, and the dedicated M4 CS sports seats provide enhanced lateral support for spirited driving and comfort on long journeys.
Body color options include the exclusive San Marino Blue Metallic and Lime Rock Grey Metallic. Additionally, limited availability allows for choices from BMW Individual, such as Frozen Dark Blue II and Matte Blue. Production is capped at 60 units. The price is 15.98 million yen, which is 4.41 million yen more than the standard M4 (with a 6-speed manual) and 3.19 million yen more than the M4 Competition. Deliveries are expected to commence in the autumn of this year.
