New Discovery Launches in Japan

Luggage space appears in 14 seconds with smartphone operation or a single button

In April, the fifth-generation Discovery, which was pre-sold as a limited edition of only 30 units calledDiscovery First Edition, will finally begin catalog sales in Japan.

In Japan, two types of 3.0-liter turbo engines are available: gasoline and diesel. The gasoline engine produces a maximum output of 340ps and a maximum torque of 450Nm, while the diesel engine produces a maximum output of 258ps and a maximum torque of 600Nm. Both are equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and two grades are available: "HSE" and "HSE Luxury," depending on the equipment differences.

The interior ensures 954mm for the second-row seats and 851mm for the third-row seats, allowing seven people to sit comfortably. Furthermore, it is possible to operate the second and third-row seats remotely from a smartphone using buttons in the trunk or a dedicated app. The vehicle can create up to 2,406 liters of luggage space in 14 seconds from a 7-seat configuration.

The body utilizes a lightweight monocoque body structure made of 85 percent aluminum, achieving a weight reduction of 360kg compared to the previous model. Additionally, it is the first in the Discovery series to feature Land Rover's unique "Terrain Response 2 Auto," an enhanced version of "Terrain Response." In auto mode, it monitors driving conditions up to 100 times per second, automatically optimizing settings for the engine, gearbox, differentials, and suspension.

Prices start at 7.79 million yen for the gasoline HSE and 8.81 million yen for the HSE Luxury. The diesel HSE is priced at 7.99 million yen, and the HSE Luxury at 9.01 million yen.
