An SUV Designed for Outdoor Enjoyment
At the New York International Auto Show, Toyota announced the "FT-4X," a four-wheel-drive concept model packed with features for outdoor enjoyment.
The design was handled by Calty Design Research, Inc., Toyota's U.S. design studio. The concept was designed with the "millennial generation"—those in their mid-30s and younger who value "convenience" and "casualness" and enjoy the outdoors—as the target audience.
The body measures 167.3 inches long, 71.7 inches wide, and 63.9 inches high (approximately 4,249 x 1,821 x 1,623 mm), with a wheelbase of 103.9 inches (2,639 mm). It features styling inspired by the letter "X" and a traditional SUV silhouette. The platform used is "TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture)," first adopted in the "Prius" and also used in the "C-HR."
Interior features include a removable audio system and room light that can be used outdoors, door handles that double as beverage bottles, a sleeping bag stored in the center console that functions as an armrest when not in use, and, on the inside of the tailgate, two console boxes that can be used for cooling or warming. These are just some of the features and designs that are useful in outdoor settings.
Considered a successor to theFJ Cruiser"FJ Cruiser," the "FT-4X" is also seen as its successor. Although there have been no announcements regarding commercial production, it appears to be a concept model with promising future potential.
