Citroen DS4 Gets a New 6AT Model
A new option is added to the luxurious and distinctive "DS Line" from Citroen. The SUV-styled four-door coupe model "DS4," positioned between the 3-door hatchback "DS3" and the flagship model "DS5," will finally have a 6-speed automatic transmission model.

The Long-Awaited Torque Converter AT Arrives
The "DS4" was previously offered in two grades: the "DS4 Sport Chic" with a 6-speed manual transmission and the "DS4 Chic" with a 6-speed EGS (explained below). Now, the "DS4 Chic 6AT" with a 6-speed automatic transmission is finally available as an option.
The 6-speed EGS, which previously served as the automatic option, is a manual transmission with automated clutch operation. While it allows drivers to enjoy sporty and direct shifting without operating a clutch pedal, the feel of automatic gear changes differs slightly from conventional torque converter automatics. This could lead to a slight sense of incongruity for drivers accustomed to smooth shifts.
The 6-speed automatic transmission being introduced this time was jointly developed by the PSA Group and Aisin AW, and is already featured in the "C5" andDS5"DS5." It is said to achieve a direct driving feel and improved fuel efficiency by minimizing power transmission loss due to friction.
The engine for the 6-speed AT model is the same as in other models: a 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder DOHC twin-scroll turbo. However, the programming has been adjusted to suit the automatic transmission's characteristics, resulting in a slightly higher maximum output of 162 hp, compared to the 156 hp of the 6-speed EGS model. The turbocharger engages from just 1,000 rpm, and the maximum torque of 240 Nm is generated at 1,400 rpm. This setup prioritizes low-end torque, making it excellent for ease of driving.
Club Leather Seats Inspired by Watch Straps Also Available
The appeal of the "DS4 CHIC 6AT" is not limited to its transmission. Optional features befitting the latest DS Line have been added.
These include the club leather seats, already available on the "DS3 Ultra Prestige" and "DS5". The design, inspired by watch straps, is available in a brown color called "Havana." Regular two-tone leather seats, not made of club leather, are also available as an option.
In addition, all the equipment from the conventional "DS4 Chic" is standard, including the panoramic windshield, bi-xenon directional headlights, blind spot monitoring system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
The DS Line Continues to Evolve
This 6AT model is not merely an additional variant; it represents Citroen's commitment to feeding back the "latest DS Line" elements into previously released models, demonstrating the continuous evolution of the DS Line. Both the "DS3 Ultra Prestige" and the "DS4 CHIC 6AT" incorporate designs, mechanisms, and materials introduced in the "DS5."
Furthermore, the upcoming Paris Motor Show will feature the unveiling of the "DS3 Cabrio". The unique product design of the "DS3 Cabrio" highlights Citroen's dedication to the DS Line.
Regarding the price of the "DS4 Chic 6AT" in Japan, it is set at 3.10 million yen, a mere 10,000 yen increase from the "DS4 Chic 6EGS" at 3.09 million yen. Even with the highly anticipated club leather seats selected, the price is set at 3.47 million yen.
