High Quality and High Safety
Clear and pure Volkswagen design. Maximum space realized on a minimal floor area. Superior quality and attention to detail.
These are the characteristics of the up!, as stated by Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG.
The simple and clean styling, expressed in the current Volkswagen design language, and the meticulous quality characteristic of Volkswagen are major strengths of the up!.
Positioned below thePOLOand succeeding the position of the LUPO, which was sold from 2001 to 2006, the up! also holds an advantage in safety compared to its competitors.
It comes standard with ESP, side airbags, and City Emergency Brake, which detects obstacles and vehicles within 10 meters at speeds below 30 km/h and automatically applies the brakes. It has achieved the highest rating of 5 stars in Euro NCAP.
Opening the one-piece glass tailgate, reminiscent of a smartphone, reveals the cargo space. The height of the bottom board can be adjusted in two stages, allowing for maximum height when set low, or for dividing the cargo space into upper and lower sections. When set high, it creates a flat space when the rear seats are folded down. The capacity is 251 liters normally, and 951 liters with the rear seats folded, which is comparable to the Polo (280 liters and 952 liters respectively) in terms of figures.
Comparing it to the Polo, the up!'s overall length is 3,545mm. Despite being 45cm shorter than the Polo, its wheelbase is only 5cm shorter.
Transmission: Single-Clutch Automated Manual "ASG"
The engine is a 999cc all-aluminum 3-cylinder MPI engine developed exclusively for the up!. It produces a maximum output of 55kW (75ps) and a maximum torque of 95Nm with natural aspiration. The up! boasts a lightweight and highly rigid body, and this engine also weighs a mere 69kg. Furthermore, by reducing internal engine resistance, it is said to achieve a sufficiently smooth feel without the need for a balancer shaft, and vibrations are also suppressed through modifications to the engine mounts.
The transmission is a single-clutch automated manual that Volkswagen calls "ASG." It features a shift program optimized for fuel efficiency. The fuel economy in JC08 mode is 23.1 km/l.
The Japanese lineup consists of three models. The 2-door move up! is ¥1.49 million, and the 4-door move up! is ¥1.68 million. The 4-door high up!, equipped standard with cruise control, park distance control, and 15-inch alloy wheels, is ¥1.83 million.
There are six body colors available. Like theThe Beetle, for some colors, the interior color scheme echoes the body color. Additionally, the high up! can be equipped with an optional electric panoramic sliding roof.
The launch date is October 1st. A debut fair will be held at dealerships nationwide from October 6th to 8th.
